User talk:Sidecar
From Encyclopedia Dramatica
Welcome, Sidecar
This is serious. READ IT.
Before making your first article look over ED:101. If you don't, it is unlikely that your article will survive for more than sixty seconds and you risk being banned by ED Sysops.
We realize a lot of you are busy or may be new to ED, so here's just the most important info:
- Read ED:101. Seriously. The information contained within is invaluable.
- Sign your comments using four tildes (like this ~~~~)
- To answer a message, reply on the user's talk page (Tab at the top that says 'discussion').
- These are the sysops. If you have a problem, talk to them. They're here to help, we promise.
- The TJC is the community portal. It's linked to from every page. Check it daily.
- Special:Upload to upload pictures.
- Active editors and sysops can be found on ED IRC. This is the place to go for advice, collaboration, and brownie points.
- See ED:HELP and ED:POLICY for everything else.

RE:Captcha crapola
No, I don't mind you asking questions. Eventually CAPTCHA will go away after you edit the wiki enough. If you refresh your browser, that should allow you to try the CAPTCHA again without losing your edits. Or simply click the back button.

You've been set to autoconfirmed users so you shouldn't have anymore issues with CAPTCHA.

- 13 edits in an hour, he's fine. Not like we are that busy, just saying.
reply 22:27, 14 February 2014 (EST)
Sorry, didn't realise I was causing a problem. Anyway, I have now edited the Operation Newbridge timeline into a single section called "Peter and Pals" -- I think it's still far too long, but I can't see how to cut it without losing the 'gist' of the situation. Ruthless editz (or suggestions for edits) are therefore welcomed.Sidecar 13:58, 15 February 2014 (EST)
I actually sat down and read absolutely bloody everything that you've written about dear old Uncle Jim and his pedo-pals, last night. The whole article, all the subpages and links, everything. All I can say is fantastic. Absolutely sterling work. - Cleveland Bay II - Return Of Cleveland Bay 13:14, 2 March 2014 (EST)
New article note
You've been doing a fine job at editing, but one thing to keep in mind: when you make new articles such as William Hague, you should always start them in your user space to prevent ED from being filled with unfinished articles. Then when its finished, just ask an editor to move it for you 00:41, 25 February 2014 (EST)Oh I beg yr pardon -- I had actually read that rule, but completely forgot it. I shall abide by it in future. Sidecar 00:43, 25 February 2014 (EST)
RE:New pages (uncategorised)
- "Operation Fairbridge" has been moved to "Jimmy Savile/Operation Fairbridge"
- "Operation: Yewtree" has been moved to "Jimmy Savile/Operation Yewtree"
As for William Hague, there isn't rule that articles must be created in the userspace, the bureaucrats have stated that numerous times. In fact, almost every article on ED is created in the mainspace. If you still want me to move it to your userspace that's fine but you're more than welcome to work in the mainspace. Regards,
reply 07:45, 25 February 2014 (EST)
- OK, thanks. Question: If I continue to create/edit in mainspace, how do I make sure that new pages get categorised? Do I have to raise it with a sysop, or is there some automatic "new page" alert system of which I know nothing? Sidecar 09:15, 25 February 2014 (EST)

Eurgh, God, really? Boris and SamCam going at it like Tory weasels! How disgusting! I think that this is potentially a really good story if it's true and I would have no reservations about it being on ED. Page needs moar content, though, I think. You need to take it as far as it will go. Well done, you're a whistleblower, son. - Cleveland Bay II - Return Of Cleveland Bay 18:32, 1 March 2014 (EST)

Nominate yourself?
Have you considered nominating yourself to become an editor?
reply 13:30, 2 March 2014 (EST)
- While editor status gives you a some extra privileges, it isn't really a security role. Keeping an eye on recent changes is a good thing but for the most part it is business as usual. Later, if you want to feature an article, picture, video or quote, you may do so. You've received a lot of compliments on the wiki and that's why I encourage you do nominate yourself.
reply 17:08, 2 March 2014 (EST)
- Yeah, that's fine.
reply 17:51, 2 March 2014 (EST)
- Yeah, that's fine.
- You'll add yourself to the nomination page. There are also some instructions at the top of it.

RE:I've arrived!!1
Heya, I'm watching a movie then going to see if I can sleep, but I'll have a look when I get up. And don't worry about it.
reply 19:17, 3 March 2014 (EST)
- Just letting you know I've not forgotten about you. Anyways, no shame in having an article end up on BNA, that just means we're encouraging others to look at it. Believe me, I've seen some absolutely terrible stuff, and none of your writings are the dreaded shitty attack article where you use the wiki to attack someone. You're here to write about stuff people care about.

Here is a navigation template I created for the articles. You're welcome to improve upon it if needed.
reply 02:30, 17 March 2014 (EDT)
Thank you for your encouragement. Have been away. It's nice to know I'm writing things that people find interesting, but I don't want to stand accused of "taking it all too seriously". Please batter me into submission if you detect any sign of such a mentality developing. I'd like to re-embark by writing an article about the Conservative Party's ubertroll Enoch Powell, which has the potential to be quite inflammatory. My question though: Is he still 'current' enough (outside of far-right splinter-group ideologies) to warrant ED immortalisation?
Also, I like the template, but the way it reads left to right appears to indicate that Fairbridge came before Yewtree, when the reverse was the case. A minor point, but it irritates my sense of order. Can it be changed? Will check back in a day or two. Sidecar 16:37, 12 April 2014 (EDT)
- I've added the articles you mentioned. In the future, you can type "Template:Jimmy Savile" into search to go directly to the template. Anyone is allowed to edit it. Regards,

- As to your question of whether a subject like Enoch Powell is current enough for an article, it doesn't matter. You are most welcome to write about anything and everything, provided you can make it moderately lulzy. It helps if it is Internet related, but it's not strictly required. VX •

Sniff ... sob ... I just don't know what to ... thank you so much ... this award isn't just for me, it's for the thousands of drug dealers, booze-sellers and prostitutes who helped me on my mission to bring truth to the poor huddled masses ... I will be donating a substantial share of the award to my patron charity, the Sidecar piss-up fund. Cheers! Sidecar 05:15, 11 September 2014 (EDT)
